Shorncliffe’s Volunteer Marine Rescue Brisbane (VMRB) is preparing to welcome the holiday spirit with its much-loved event, Carols by the Creek.
The family-friendly afternoon on Sunday, 24 November, is a staple of the 4017’s holiday celebrations.
VMRB Secretary and event organiser David Massam said he looked forward to the festive afternoon.
“Our area at Cabbage Tree Creek faces towards the creek with views out to Moreton Bay, creating the ambience for a relaxing picnic afternoon on the grass for families,” David said.
“In planning the event, emphasis has been placed on children by providing a range of fun activities catering for all ages, including a visit by a fire engine from the Queensland Fire Service and a police car from the Queensland Police Service. Children’s activities are also planned by the PCYC.
“I think the most enjoyable part for children is when Santa arrives by Volunteer Marine Rescue’s primary rescue vessel Sands 1 around 6pm to sit down and have a chat and provide all children in attendance with a small gift. Always a highlight for parents and kids alike!”
Festive Fun for All Ages
Activities for children include free face painting by Taz, arts and crafts by Kim Mancini and mini-golf compliments of Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy. Additional games will be provided by the Sandgate Guide and Brisbane City Council’s Activities Team.
Live entertainment will feature the All Directions Choir, Soul Sisters and Robbie McGowan. The Sandgate Yacht Club and Brownsea Scouts will run a barbecue, while food trucks include Eric the Calamari Man and the Maxi Coffee Van, as well as ice cream and hot donuts. A licensed bar will be available.
Cr Cassidy said Carols by the Creek was such a relaxed event at a unique location.
“Where else in Brisbane do you see Santa arrive by powerboat?” he said. “Bring a picnic rug, enjoy local music and great food and drinks from the VMR bar.
“I’ve been sponsoring this event since day one and working with the VMR on this and other local events is a real pleasure. They are such a great community-minded organisation.”
David thanked the event sponsors and supporters, including Cr Cassidy, the Sandgate Guide, Woolworths Sandgate, Ampol Fuel, Deagon Meats, Tom’s Confectionery Warehouse, Kedron-Wavell and Network Solutions .
“The event would not be possible without their generous support,” he said.
