Put on your dancing shoes and warm up those vocal cords because Brit Beat Mania is coming to Sandgate!

Taking over The Sands Bowlo on Saturday, 29 November, audiences will go on a fun, entertaining, and interactive journey through the era of the British Invasion, featuring all the 60s classics with a hint of the 70s.

Founder, lead guitarist, and backing vocalist, Gary Allen, said the night would provide audiences with iconic music, costume changes, and lots of dancing.

“We aim to provide the look and the sound that created arguably the most influential period in music history,” Gary said. “So, people can expect a number of costume changes reflecting the different stages of the era, obviously the iconic music with some choreography along the way.”

The Band, the Music, and the Magic

Forming the band over five years ago, Gary decided to channel his years of experience performing in cover bands into creating something unique. Noticing how deeply audiences, particularly UK expats, connected with the timeless music of the 1960s British scene, he set out to form a tribute show band dedicated to that era.

Gary said there were certain songs in the show that never failed to spark memories for the audience.

“Doo Wah Diddy always gets everyone going and provides an opportunity for some audience participation – it also highlights some local stars!” he said.

“Our Tom Jones tribute features Delilah, which is also another cult sing-along, and our salute to The Beatles is one which seems to spark a lot of memories for people, and usually gets the dance floor pumping.”

Joining Gary on stage is Ian Schubert on lead vocals, Danny McLees rocking it out on drums, Stu Hastings on bass guitar and vocals, and Stewart Paxton on the keyboard.

Gary said it was the audience participation that made Brit Beat Mania truly special.

“I think the highlight and feedback we receive is that everybody knows the iconic songs we perform, so they know all the words and are invariably singing along,” he said. “This is highlighted when we stop the music at a number of stages throughout the show for the audience to take over – it’s magic!”
