On Sunday, 10 November, members of the Lions Club of Brisbane Inner North will embark on a fundraising walk to support the Australian Lions Hearing Dogs program.

The gold coin fundraiser walk, Lap the Map, begins at 7am at the Sandgate Aquatic Centre, with participants covering a five-kilometre route along the scenic foreshore.

Four years ago, the Australian Lions Hearing Dogs identified a significant gap in access to assistance dogs for individuals facing complex chronic illnesses.

Their first Medical Alert Dog was specially trained for those with type 1 diabetes. These dogs are lifesavers, alerting their owners by gently touching them when blood glucose levels fall outside a safe range. This prompt enables diabetics to check and manage their condition effectively.

The trained Diabetic Alert Dogs can also retrieve emergency supplies, seek help from household members and alert emergency contacts if their owner becomes unresponsive.

Supporting the Cause and Getting Involved

Each dollar raised through Lap the Map will help buy and train future Australian Lions Assistance Dogs.

Attendees at this month’s walk can learn more about diabetes and enjoy refreshments with Lions members at the café afterwards.
