The Einbunpin Festival, the ultimate family day out, is back for its 32nd year celebrating the 4017 community.

With hundreds of community and business stalls, live and local music, food, activities, rides and exciting new art projects, this year’s festival is not to be missed.

Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy said 2023’s festival had the biggest crowd in years, with many people spending their entire day there.

“I think people love that it’s still such a community festival,” Cr Cassidy said. “We have plenty of commercial stalls, but still so many community groups are on show and engage with people in ways they normally don’t get to.”

The festival committee of dedicated volunteers works tirelessly to make the event a success each year and is supported on the day by community members, including the Brownsea Scouts and St Patrick’s College students.

“The festival would not be possible without the many hours put in by the hard-working volunteers and the financial support our sponsors give us,” Cr Cassidy said. “This festival really runs on the generosity of the community.”

This year’s highlights

One highlight of this year’s festival will be new art installations created by the team at Mancini Art Gallery. In the lead-up to the festival, gallery owner Kim Mancini and fellow artists Kerri Underwood and Kym Woods have been creating three panels representing the Einbunpin Lagoon. Festival-goers will be invited to contribute to the panels on the day. Children can also get involved by creating creatures to be installed around the edges of the lagoon.

Kim said they would also begin the first instalment of a three-year project where the letters of EINBUNPIN will be cut out and painted.

“Each of the letters will represent the local flora and fauna of the lagoon as well as the event itself,” Kim said.  “Three letters will be completed each year at the event by artists-in-residence from Mancini Art Gallery and Studio.”

Other artists and community members interested in participating in this project can book a time slot with Kim via www.manciniartgallery.com.au.

Cr Cassidy said locals should be proud of their community festival.

“It really is the largest community-run festival on the Northside which still has a focus on celebrating every facet of our community,” he said.

“There will be programs available in the week before the festival at the Deagon Ward Office, Full Moon Hotel and Sands Social, along with our other sponsors.

“So, plan your whole day out and enjoy the community we live in!”
