As Sandgate prepares for the 34th annual Einbunpin Festival, organisers say they are on track for the biggest festival yet with even more budget-friendly attractions.
Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy said that what started as a very small community gathering has grown into a widely celebrated festival with three stages, roving entertainment, and family fun all day long.
“We are on track to smash stall records with over 200 sites booked,” he said. “We have seen the festival grow both in crowd attendance and stall numbers over the years and I think that’s a testament to the community we live in.”
With family budgets in mind, and thanks to the generosity of event sponsors, this year’s festival will offer even more complimentary attractions for families to enjoy.
“We have focused on providing more free activities over the last few years and this year we have built on that again,” Cr Cassidy said. “All of the rides, face painting, and craft activities are free.”
Free Entertainment & Puppy-cuddling

This year’s festival will also include a free puppy-cuddling exhibit designed to please all of the animal-loving visitors.
Sue Blank from Canine Cuddles Animal Therapy explained that their friendly therapy dogs provide more than just cuddles – they create moments of joy, relaxation and memorable experiences for people of all ages.
“The dogs love attending festivals and big events,” she said. “More people means more attention for them and more cuddles.”
While the festival will be filled with returning community stalls and band performances, attendees may recognise another festival favourite this year – stilt walker Elke McConnell.
As a performing artist and entertainer, Elke grew up locally and has been involved with the Einbunpin Festival for many years.
“The festival has been part of my world for as long as I can remember,” she said. “I think free entertainment at community festivals adds a sense of wonder, playfulness and connection. It’s wonderful watching people engage with the performance and share a laugh together.”

Community Spirit Take Centre Stage
Cr Cassidy said the festival model works well as people appreciate that they can have a great time while supporting their local community.
“It’s organised and run by dedicated volunteers, auspiced by SANDBAG and puts the community front and centre,” he said. “The Einbunpin Festival is so successful because it’s about celebrating what’s best about our community.”
