There won’t be a resting Grinch-face in sight this July, as the Jingle Brews charity pub crawl once again hits the streets of Sandgate on Saturday, 13 July – all for a jolly good cause.
Following the success of the inaugural event last year, the merry occasion has cemented itself a permanent place on the annual calendar.
Sandgate Bayside Chamber of Commerce President Bill Gollan said the idea was developed by local businesses and the Chamber last year as a way to bring the community and businesses together to not only celebrate Christmas but to raise funds for Variety – the Children’s Charity.
“We held the first Jingle Brews Charity Bar Tour last year and had such positive feedback from businesses and the community that it’s now become an annual event,” he said.
“Last year we raised over $3400 for Variety – the Children’s Charity and we are proud to partner with them again this year.”
With some of the suburb’s finest venues on the tour, ticket holders will mistle-toast the July holiday season in style, with venues including Bluenose Betty, Mr Hendersons, Sandgate Post Office Hotel, the Full Moon Hotel, the Sands Social and the Sands Bowlo.
Bill said the event would be a bell-ringer for anyone who wanted to get involved, with a shotgun start ensuring the belly laughs were spread evenly across the venues.
“People can register with their friends, family or workmates to create teams of any size,” he said. “People can even buy single tickets if they don’t have a team.
“The event is a shotgun start at midday, so teams start at one of the six venues and rotate hourly to the next. At each venue, teams will be entertained, can take part in games and activities and have a chance to win prizes every hour.
“They also receive a complimentary schooner of beer, which can be substituted for wine and non-alcoholic options. And some light complimentary snacks will be available.”
