Yuletide on the Bayside

No one celebrates Christmas quite like the 4017 and this year’s Jingle All the Bay event is set to be extra festive.

Sandgate Bayside Chamber of Commerce president Bill Gollan said it was his favourite time of year.

“I might be biased, but I reckon Jingle All the Bay is Brisbane’s best community event,” he said.

“It’s like a Christmas cake – you add in community, businesses, Christmas, and that great spirit Sandgate has, and then you mix it all up and it comes out bigger and better each year.”

Sandgate’s main street will be closed from Seymour Street/Bowser Parade to the corner of Sixth Avenue, transforming the area into a huge Christmas party.

Local shops, restaurants and cafes will be open for the night, and there will be market stalls and food trucks, alongside amusement rides at Einbunpin Lagoon.

Local bands and dance troupes will be rocking the Full Moon Hotel main stage, and businesses will be decorated in their Christmas best.

For the littlest festival-goers, there will be free face painting from 5pm at Belle Property Shop, as well as a kids’ corner set up on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Brighton Road, with ice cream, fairy floss and activities.

Parade Highlights and Santa’s Unique Arrival

The celebrations would not be complete without the annual parade and an appearance from the Big Guy in Red, all the way from the North Pole.

“The big change to the parade this year is that we’re going in the reverse direction to previous years,” Bill said.

“So, we are starting at the northern end of Sandgate, next to the Police Station, running down Brighton Road around the roundabout and finishing at Bowser Parade.

“Families will be able to utilise Anzac Park more, have some food, watch the parade and see the Full Moon Hotel main stage.

“Santa is back of course, and I don’t know of anywhere else in the world where Santa arrives by boat.”

Bill added Jingle All the Bay was a great way to celebrate the season with family, and the wider community, as well as support local business by doing some Christmas shopping.

“From a Chamber perspective, when our local businesses are doing better, our community groups are doing better as well – we all rise on the one tide,” he said.
