From creative crafts to trivia and robot battles, Sandgate Library is serving up a winter program full of fun for all ages.

Brisbane City Council has a range of free activities planned for the school holidays (28 June to 13 July), along with events for all age groups, including seniors looking to connect with others and stay active in their community.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Brisbane was Australia’s lifestyle capital and that all 33 Council libraries offered free events and classes throughout the year.

“As a parent, I know firsthand how amazing our local libraries are when it comes to creating more to see and do in the suburbs,” he said.

“Upcoming events like Make and Create and Fact Finders at the Sandgate Library are perfect for getting kids off screens, while Tea and Trivia and Brain Training for seniors is a great way for older residents to get out and connect.

“I encourage everyone to jump on the Council website and learn more about all the fantastic things our libraries have to offer.”

Events Lineup: Crafts, Trivia, Robots & More

The fun kicks off each month with Tea and Trivia on Wednesdays, 4 June and 2 July, from 10.30am to 11.30am. Come alone or bring friends for a relaxed morning of friendly trivia and conversation.

Seniors can also enjoy Brain Training on Wednesday, 9 July, from 11am to 12pm. This session offers a chance to solve puzzles, crosswords, brain teasers and more in an environment that encourages problem-solving, creativity and social connection.

During the school holidays, children can get hands-on at Make and Create sessions on Tuesday, 1 July and Tuesday, 8 July, from 11am to 12pm. These drop-in craft sessions are perfect for children aged four to 12 and their carers.

Curious minds can also take part in Fact Finders – True or False? on Thursday, 3 July, from 11am to 12pm, with staff-led activities inspired by Unreal by Kate Simpson, a Children’s Book Council notable listed book. This session is ideal for children aged eight to 12.

Finally, young inventors aged six to 10 can join Wrestling Fun with Edison Robot on Thursday, 10 July, from 11am to 12pm. Kids will build and program robots to compete in a fun and interactive tournament – no coding experience is needed.
