Students at Shorncliffe State School will return to improved and safer outdoor facilities in the new school year, with sun safe upgrade works continuing over the summer holidays.

While classrooms are quiet during the break, construction crews are taking advantage of the holiday period to complete access and safety improvements at the school. The project includes upgrades to improve accessibility, including a new sun safe ramp providing better access to the oval and playground areas.

Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said state school staff and students would return to the new and upgraded outdoor infrastructure in the new year. “While our schools enjoy their summer break, we will continue working to ensure our students and staff have fantastic new facilities to come back to,” Minister Langbroek said, “Every Queensland student deserves access to a world-class education, regardless of where they live, and these upgrades help to deliver this.”

Part of a Statewide School Infrastructure Program

The works form part of a Queensland Government program delivering more than $30 million in new and upgraded outdoor learning and play spaces across the state. In total, 80 schools are benefiting from projects such as shade structures, playground upgrades, sports courts and improved access pathways.

The Shorncliffe State School upgrade is part of the State Government’s broader education investment, aimed at improving school infrastructure and delivering safe, inclusive learning environments for students across Queensland.

Students and staff are expected to benefit from the completed works when they return to school, with the improvements supporting both accessibility and sun safety in outdoor areas.
