The Bracken Ridge Backyard Bonanza is back for 2026, bringing a full day of free family entertainment, community displays, market stalls and one of Brisbane’s favourite miniature train experiences to McPherson Park.
Running for more than 20 years, the annual event has become a highlight on the local community calendar, with hundreds of families gathering to enjoy live entertainment, animals, rides and the chance to discover the many clubs and organisations that make Bracken Ridge such a vibrant place to live.
A Day of Free Family Fun
Backyard Bonanza Coordinator and Bracken Ridge Lions Club member Louise Gordon said the event continues to grow each year while remaining true to its community focus.
“The Bracken Ridge Lions Club miniature trains are the main attraction,” Louise said. “But SpongeBob and friends will be performing three live interactive experiences, and we will have the giant slide, rock wall and teacups that are free for all to enjoy.”
Children can enjoy:

- Amazing Animals farmyard experience
- Reptile Adventures with native reptiles and amphibians
- Miniature train rides hosted by the Bracken Ridge Lions Club
With plenty of activities spread throughout McPherson Park, it’s an easy day out for families of all ages.
Live Entertainment All Day
Entertainment will run across the day, showcasing local performers alongside popular community acts.
Visitors can enjoy performances from:
- Bracken Ridge State High School Concert Band
- Bracken Ridge State High School Jazz Band
- Bracken Ridge State School Concert Band
- Soundwave Choir
- Guide Dogs demonstrations
- Brisbane School of Iberian Swordsmanship
- Aussie, Aussie, Aussie cover band
More Than 100 Market and Community Stalls
One of the biggest attractions each year is the opportunity to meet the many organisations that support the local community.
“We will also have stage shows from Soundwave Choir, Guide Dogs, the Brisbane School of Iberian Swordsmanship, as well as cover band Aussie, Aussie, Aussie,” Louise said. “With over 100 stalls coming on the day, there will be something for everyone.”

- Bramble Bay Women’s Shed
- Sandgate Men’s Shed
Louise said Backyard Bonanza offers residents a chance to discover activities, volunteer opportunities and local services they may not have known existed.
“There will be Scouts, Little Athletics, Guide Dogs, Bramble Bay Women’s Shed and the Sandgate Men’s Shed,” she said. “This will be a great opportunity for residents to find out what is available in their backyard.”
Celebrating the Bracken Ridge Community
Bracken Ridge Ward Councillor Sandy Landers said the event continues to showcase everything that makes the local community special.
“We love the Bracken Ridge Lions Train Day on the fourth Sunday of each month,” she said. “But, we love the August train day the most when all of our community is showcased in one location.”
She encouraged newcomers to the area to come along and meet local clubs and organisations.
“If you are new to Bracken Ridge Ward, I encourage you to come along and see all the amazing things we have to offer. You may find an opportunity to volunteer or join a new club right here in your neighbourhood.”
