John MacGinley – Podiatrist / Lab Technician

John’s passion for podiatry began at a young age when he required podiatric care for an intoed gait. His curiosity and love of science led him to complete a Bachelor of Health and Science (Podiatry) at Queensland University of Technology. Following his graduation, John gained experience at one of Australia’s leading podiatry clinics, where he was known for tackling challenges with a smile.

John’s vision was to bring a fresh face to podiatry in Brisbane’s North, opening his own clinic to improve quality of life through expert foot care. He has a special interest in biomechanical cases, musculoskeletal injuries, and diabetic foot complications, while also providing general skin and nail care.

Kristine Terry – Podiatrist

Kristine graduated from QUT in 2010 and discovered her calling in podiatry after working in other professions. She is passionate about patient-centred care, helping individuals optimise their foot health for comfortable day-to-day living. Kristine is a podiatry all-rounder, treating patients of all ages for general nail and skin conditions, diabetic foot assessments, foot pain, and injuries.

Caitlin and Penny – Practice Manager / Paw-Diatrist

Caitlin and Penny handle everything other than feet, ensuring the clinic runs smoothly and every patient feels welcome.

Biomechanical Analysis

Biomechanical analysis studies human movement to assess musculoskeletal health. By evaluating foot alignment, gait, range of motion, and muscle strength, podiatrists can identify irregularities and create personalised treatment plans. These plans may include orthotics, exercises, or footwear advice to improve efficiency and prevent future issues.

Foot and Leg Pain

Foot and leg pain can affect mobility, work, and daily life. Sandgate Podiatry provides thorough assessment and treatment pathways. Appointments include a detailed history, muscle testing, full gait analysis with a pressure plate, and a 3D foot scan. Custom orthotics can then be made to provide support, comfort, and pain relief.

Common conditions treated include:

  • Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
  • Heel spurs
  • Arch pain and flat feet
  • Pronated (feet that roll in) or supinated feet (feet that roll out)
  • Pain in the ball of the foot (Morton’s Neuroma, bursitis, sesamoiditis)
  • Midfoot, ankle, knee, hip, and lower back pain
  • Children’s foot and leg problems
  • Sports injuries, Achilles tendinopathy, shin splints, Sever’s disease, arthritis, bunions, and calf tears

Nail and Skin Care

Healthy feet aren’t just about bones and muscles—they also need skin and nail care. Sandgate Podiatry provides gentle, effective treatment for a wide range of common concerns, including:

  • Ingrown toenails
  • Thickened or deformed nails
  • Fungal or discoloured nails
  • Corns, calluses, cracked heels, dry skin
  • Plantar warts
  • Foot ulcers and wounds
  • Diabetic assessments, nerve, and blood flow checks
  • Footwear advice and education on self-care

The clinic aims to treat problems while also teaching patients preventative care, so feet stay healthy and comfortable long-term.

Shockwave Therapy

For stubborn or long-term foot and lower limb conditions, Sandgate Podiatry offers Shockwave Therapy. This modern, non-invasive treatment uses gentle sound waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, improve blood flow, and break down scar tissue.

Conditions treated include:

  • Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Shin splints
  • Iliotibial band syndrome
  • Other long-term muscle or tendon injuries

Benefits include no surgery, no medication, and minimal downtime. Most patients can return to their daily activities immediately, with many noticing relief after only a few sessions.

Custom Orthotics

Every foot is unique, and Sandgate Podiatry uses the world-leading Orthema system to design custom orthotics. With a 3D foot scanner, the clinic captures a precise digital model in under a minute—no messy plaster casts needed. Orthotics are crafted on-site, often ready within the same week.

Custom orthotics are made from supportive, comfortable materials tailored to your needs. They can help with:

  • Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
  • Flat feet or arch problems
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthritis and age-related foot changes
  • Lower back and posture-related pain
  • Everyday foot aches and fatigue

Diabetic Foot Care

For those with diabetes, yearly podiatry visits are essential. Sandgate Podiatry conducts comprehensive assessments, including tests, foot examinations, and advice on foot care. Early detection of issues helps prevent complications, supporting long-term mobility and health.
