The 4017 community is mourning the loss of local legend David “Dagwood” Bissell, who passed away on 12 July.

One half of the iconic clowning duo, Peebo and Dagwood, his family announced his death on the performers’ official Facebook page

“It is with deep sadness that we have had to say a final goodbye to our beautiful David,” the post read.

“Our grief is great, but we are comforted that he no longer has to fight or struggle. No one could have fought harder. He has earned his rest and can finally be at peace.

“We are bolstered by the amazing and beautiful legacy he left for so many of us.

“What a special gift to be able to make people smile and remind us all to Live Life, Love Life and Laugh.

“David is such an amazing human who taught us how to focus on what’s important and squeeze every drop from life.

“Thank you all for your love and support of David. He loved and appreciated your messages.”

David’s twin brother Peter “Peebo” passed away in 2020.

Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy led local tributes to Dagwood.

“(David) … gave us almost a generation of entertainment, laughter, life and love,” Cr Cassidy posted on Facebook.

“Even to the end he was enthusiastic for life.

“What he and his late brother Peter ‘Peebo’ did together was life changing for many people, despite the immense challenges they faced themselves.

“I got to know Dagz well over the last few years and I don’t know of many better people than him. I will sorely miss him but know I’m better for having known him.

“Farewell mate.”
