Local real estate agent Zac McHardy has stepped into a new role as president of the Sandgate Historical Society.
“It’s been a big learning curve for me, but I am really enjoying it,” he said.
“We have some amazing volunteers, they run the museum like clockwork, everything there runs so smoothly.”
Zac added that he hoped to raise more awareness in the community about the work of the museum and the society, as well as bring in some updated processes.
Zac McHardy Leads Renovations and Digital Upgrades
“We did our first Facebook Live with a raffle at the Einbunpin Festival, which was a huge success and I’d like to look at doing a video series about some of the historical homes and buildings we have here,” he said.
“Looking to the future, the museum needs a big renovation and we’re in the process of digitising the systems there and the archives, so that people from outside this area can access it all online.
“I’m also keen to start recording our current history – today is tomorrow’s history. We’ve all just lived through some historical times.”
Zac encouraged Sandgate locals to head into the museum on Rainbow Street.
“There are some items in there you wouldn’t believe and information about significant people who have come from this area,” he said.
