Residents can look forward to safer and smoother travels along the Rainbow Street bikeway in Sandgate following recent enhancements made by Brisbane City Council.
The upgrade works included road resurfacing between Curlew Street and Palm Avenue and widening the existing 1.5-metre-wide bike lanes to two metres. These lanes have also been enhanced with green line markings to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians. Painted buffer zones have been added to separate traffic lanes and bike lanes.
Flexible bollards have been installed at intersections to mark the road and provide a clear separation between drivers and cyclists. Painted chevron markings and concrete traffic islands have also been added to intersections to guide motorists.
Existing line marking and signage have also been upgraded.
Rainbow Street Bikeway Upgrade: A Commitment To Keeping Brisbane Moving
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the council’s commitment to keeping Brisbane moving meant investing in the roads, public transport and bikeway infrastructure a growing city needs.
“Brisbane’s bikeways are well loved by residents and are a fantastic way to get out and explore our local suburbs,” Cr Schrinner said.
“By resurfacing roads and adding greater safety features to bikeways, we are making sure residents can get where they want to go sooner and safer.”
