Festoon lighting, food trucks and fabulous music will take over the Green outside the Bracken Ridge Library as local students showcase their musical talents for the next instalment of School’s Out On The Green.

Orchestrated by local youth, Bracken Ridge Ward Councillor Sandy Landers explained that the all-ages, vibrant event was well-loved by all who came to enjoy the evening.

“I am always happy to support our youth and events,” she said. “I love seeing our young people have these opportunities to perform and our community really enjoys listening to them.”

Originating in 2022 as part of Brisbane’s Youth Week, School’s Out On The Green has been held bi-annually ever since, with students responsible for choosing a theme for each occasion.

“The theme this time is Friday the 13th,” Cr Landers said. “We’re encouraging everyone to dress up and support our talented youth.”

With a costume competition, spooky decorations and a hint of early Halloween spirit, the Friday the 13th theme will be brought to life as attendees are treated to a variety of musical genres from both soloists and bands.

Previous performer, Noah, said it was always a great time.

“The atmosphere is always fantastic, with people singing along and clapping,” Noah said.

Cr Landers said that as a former high school teacher, she loved seeing young people take ownership of the event while developing new skills and confidence.

“When an event is run by them, for them, it is far more meaningful and successful,” she said.
