At the heart of Sandgate sits a community organisation that has quietly brought people together for generations. Established in 1952, the Sandgate & District Senior Citizens Centre has been a place of friendship, fun and connection for more than 70 years.

The Centre provides a supportive and inclusive environment where older adults can stay active, social and engaged. From regular weekly activities to special events and day trips, it plays an important role in helping locals remain connected to their community.

New Indoor Bowling Venture

The Centre is excited to explore a new indoor bowling program for members. If there’s enough interest, the sessions will kick off in February, taking place on Wednesday afternoons from 12:30 pm. Indoor bowling is a fun, social way to stay active and meet fellow members in a relaxed environment. Anyone interested is encouraged to call Julie or Joy on 0466 627 313 to register their interest and help get this new activity underway.

Bus Trips Planned for 2026

One of the highlights of the Centre’s social calendar is its popular bus trips. Several outings are planned for 2026, with more details to be shared closer to the dates. Each trip costs $100, which includes the coach journey, morning tea and lunch. A lay-by payment option is available.

Planned destinations include:

Big Pineapple

A classic Sunshine Coast attraction, the Big Pineapple combines nostalgia with modern experiences. Visitors can enjoy the iconic landmark, explore the surrounding grounds and take part in guided tours and attractions that celebrate Queensland produce and history.

Tommerup’s Dairy Farm

Located in the Scenic Rim, Tommerup’s Dairy Farm is a working, multi-generation family farm known for its welcoming atmosphere and fresh local produce. It’s a relaxed day out that offers a glimpse into life on the land.

Silver Bullet High Tea Experience

This elegant experience takes place aboard the Silver Bullet heritage railmotor, travelling through Queensland’s scenic Mary Valley. Guests enjoy a gourmet high tea with sweet and savoury treats, unlimited tea and coffee, and a glass of bubbles while taking in rolling hills, bridges and countryside views on the journey to Dagun.

Cobb & Co Experience

Inspired by Queensland’s pioneering past, this outing celebrates the era of horse-drawn coaches and early travel, offering a nostalgic look at how communities once connected across the state.

These trips are designed to be social, relaxed and enjoyable, making them a favourite among members.

Volunteers Make It All Possible

Like many community organisations, the Centre relies on volunteers to keep activities running smoothly. They are currently seeking help with:

  • Over-50s exercise classes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings
  • Bingo callers for Monday or Saturday sessions

Volunteering is a great way to stay active, meet new people and give back to the local community.

Anyone interested can contact Julie or Joy on 0466 627 313 for more information.
