Gather your friends and get ready to run, walk or roll at LST Support Services’ fun-tastic community-inclusive colour run!

The all-abilities event at Decker Park in Brighton on Saturday, 14 September will be an unforgettable day and a wonderful way for community members to connect.

Taylor Campbell, one of the directors at LST (Learning to Succeed Together) Support Services, said the run was the perfect way to raise awareness of people living with disabilities or mental health conditions.

“We decided to host the event to celebrate our 5th birthday with our community,” she said. “It’s also an opportunity for us to promote what we do best through inclusivity.”

LST Support Services offers customised and collaborative support plans by advocating for independence and personal growth for their buddies (clients), with a strong belief in the power of connection and inclusion.

“I’ve been working here for almost five years now and love that we have created such a happy and encouraging environment,” Taylor said. “It doesn’t feel like a job and we’re able to offer a variety of events that provide opportunities for social interactions, new experiences and new friendships for our buddies.

“In our first year of operating, we hosted our first public event – a water bomb fight at Decker Park. The event was a great success so we thought we should acknowledge the five-year mark with another fun community celebration. We wanted to do something bright and colourful that will make people happy – a colour run!”

A Fun, Inclusive Event Celebrating Community and Raising Awareness for Disabilities

Taylor said there would be about 15 businesses joining the fun, showcasing their services and being a part of the run with pit stops, stalls and volunteering to ensure the event goes smoothly.

“We will have a sausage sizzle, snow cones and a coffee cart,” she said. “There will also be kids’ activities, a sensory tent, face painting and glitter stations, and coloured powder available for purchase.”

Taylor, and her co-director, Liam Sue-Tin, are excited for the event to bring awareness to the inclusion of those living with a disability or mental health challenges.

“It will be a great event for the community to learn about inclusive businesses, which could benefit those living with disabilities,” she said. “We are expecting around 300 people for the run and are hoping to make it an annual event moving forward.”
