If you ever needed a reason to challenge yourself to a 35km walk, this is it!

The Bloody Long Walk on Sunday, June 15 is a fundraising event organised by the Mito Foundation to help raise awareness and funds as they search for a cure for, and support families affected by, mitochondrial disease (mito).

Marketing and Communications Manager at the Mito Foundation, Lauren Batchelor, spoke about a local family affected by mito.

“Ziggy is just three years old and lives with Pearson Syndrome – an extremely rare and devastating mitochondrial disease,” Lauren said. “With so little known about how mito, and especially Pearson Syndrome progresses, every day brings new challenges and fears.

“That’s why the team is walking – for Ziggy, for his future and for every family facing mito.”

The walk takes in the Boondall Wetlands, riverside bikeways, leafy suburbs and city skylines on a path from Curlew Park in Sandgate to the City Botanic Gardens. The course is well signposted and participants are supported with checkpoints along the way.

You can make a world of difference for people impacted by mito with every dollar you raise and every step you take. Find more information here.
