After more than a decade as a cherished local hub,EclecTea, a Brighton tapas bar and restaurant will close its doors at the end of this month.
EclecTea on Queens Parade has been part of the 4017 community for 13 years, offering not only food and music but also a welcoming space for celebrations and connection.
Owner Kara said she took over the business nearly six years ago to continue fostering the creativity that had found a home there and to provide a space for people to escape and unwind.
“It really is a special place for locals,” Kara said. “A place to connect, or disconnect…whatever was needed. To meet up with old friends, meet new people, or to chill alone. It’s a place with no judgement. Where you can come and just…be. There’s something special about the sense of ease the space allows.”
Reflecting on the years gone by, Kara said her fondest memories of EclecTea were the people and the friendships forged, not just for herself but the staff, patrons and musicians.
“And converting as many people to understand that vegetarian food can taste delicious and that martinis with three olives are the best,” she joked.
“The community has always been such a pillar of support over the years. We have our regulars, our super regulars and our not-so-regulars. The artists. The musicians. The local businesses. We wouldn’t have made it through the last five incredibly tough years without each and every one of them.”
A Celebration Before Goodbye
While the closure may be bittersweet, Kara said she was looking forward to the future.
“Weekends,” she said. “Time with family and friends. Getting back out into nature. Spending more time creatively. Time for new adventures.
“There are some exciting new prospects that have popped up in 4017, so we will still be around. Keep your eyes and ears peeled.”
EclecTea’s final weekend promises a celebration, which, according to Kara, will be “a huge weekend with all our favourite people and things – music, smiles, lots of cocktails (and) real vibes”.
On Saturday, 28 June, which also coincides with Kara’s birthday, guests will be treated to cake, while Sunday, 29 June will feature a full day of open mic performances, showcasing musicians who have played a role in EclecTea’s story.
As a parting message to the community and her team, Kara said: “Keep being kind, the world needs it.”
“Thanks for the ride. It’s been wild. It’s not goodbye, but see you later.
The business remains listed for sale through Bonza Business Brokers until September.
