Brighton’s beloved St Peter’s Thrift Shop has some exciting news that’s sure to delight Bramble Bay bargain hunters.

Starting in June, they will offer extended hours and a bi-weekly pop-up market, giving locals more product choices and additional opportunities to visit this local treasure trove.

The shop, which formerly operated as a church from 1959-2022, has been a volunteer-run thrift shop for just over two years.

The shop’s coordinator, Di Frazer, said they would be open every second Saturday from 8am to noon.

“Currently, we only operate on Fridays, so offering Saturday hours is great news for the community,” Di said.

To help make their extended hours a success, the shop is looking for some additional helping hands.

“Our volunteers could really do with some extra help,” Di said. “Volunteers are an essential part of St Peter’s, as we need people to help with sorting donations and serving customers.”

Affordable Finds, Local Impact, and Community Connection

In addition to all of the fabulous finds inside the store, Di said they will host a pop-up mini-market on the second Friday of each month to offer shoppers more variety.

“Market coordinator Vicky McDowall will run the market days starting at 8am,” she said. “There will be edible products such as jams, breads, biscuits, etc, as well as plants, cushions, headbands, recycled products from Thailand, soaps, bath bombs and individual glass drinking containers.”

Grateful to be next to a bustling primary school, Di said many of their customers were local parents and caregivers. “

The busiest time for the shop is obviously at drop off and pick up time,” she said. “The local schools are a big asset.”

However, with the added Saturday hours, they hope to attract additional shoppers who may be working full-time during the week. With new stock arriving weekly, extended hours and the addition of the markets, the store is the perfect place to find affordable products while supporting sustainable shopping and charitable causes.

“St Peter’s makes regular donations to a variety of local organisations,” Di said. “We donate to places such as SANDBAG, school chaplaincies and the Cancer Council.”

Whether you’re curious to see what’s in store, are looking to up your bargain-hunting game, or would like to volunteer, St Peter’s Thrift Shop would love for you to pop in and say hello!
