Shorncliffe State School’s beloved fete is making its return with a fun-filled day of rides, performances, and classic community vibes.
Mark your calendar for Sunday, 12 October, when the bi-annual celebration springs to life.
Kimberley Worthington from the Shorncliffe State School P&C fundraising team said everyone could look forward to a heartwarming day filled with nostalgic charm and true community spirit.
“From the smell of sizzling sausages and jacket potatoes to the sweet delight of fairy floss, the fete brings back all the traditional favourites we remember and love,” Kimberley said.
“This event truly celebrates what makes Shorncliffe special; families, fun, and a strong sense of connection.”
Rides include the giant slide, teacups, The Storm, and a 23-metre inflatable obstacle course called Caveman Capers. Unlimited ride armbands can be pre-purchased, with single ride tickets and armbands also available on the day.
Kimberley said the fete would open with a traditional Maypole performance.
“Our wonderful teacher, Mrs Drago, an ex-student of Shorncliffe, has been practising with our students in the lead up,” she said. “The maypole symbolises the welcoming of spring and community gathering. “
The school’s band and choirs will perform, followed by a talent show and a kids’ disco to close out the day.
Food, Fun, and Fundraising for the Future
Sideshow Alley will offer fairground favourites like Lucky Ducks, a new attraction called the live human slot machine, and games created by school dads.
“One of the crowd favourites making a return is the giant green monster – yes, the one where you get to pick his nose for a surprise prize!” Kimberley said.
For the grown-ups, there’s a bar area, and plenty of food options for the whole family, including the sausage sizzle, German sausages, jacket potatoes, and hot chips from Shorncliffe’s Shelley Inn.
“And we’re thrilled to welcome back the fan favourite Gourmet Goat Pie Guy; a talented school dad for one last day of his famous, mouthwatering artisan pies,” Kimberley said.
There will also be a new second-hand book stall, as well as the return of the popular plant stall.
Funds raised from the fete will support upgrades to the school’s music, STEM, and playground facilities.
Kimberley said they had seen incredible support, from the generosity of local sponsors and businesses, to the tireless efforts of volunteers.
“The fete truly shows what’s possible when a community rallies around a shared goal; and we’re so grateful for the support that continues to make it such a special and successful event,” she said.
