Sandgate Mowers is more than just a mower store, and they have proven this through their most recent collaboration with Brothers ‘N’ Books.

Brothers ‘N’ Books is a charitable organisation that focuses on bibliotherapy – a creative arts therapy that uses literature as a tool to support mental health.

The organisation provides several services, including access to books and reading groups.

With more than 12,000 books donated and 99 free community libraries created so far, the Sandgate Mowers store is now jumping on board and offering access to a small community library.

Sandgate Mowers With Brothers ‘N’ Books Connecting Communities Together

Sandgate Mowers co-owner Elise Barton said the collaboration with Brothers ‘N’ Books started with their first business in Brendale.

“Our original business, Yard Empire, started with a focus on community connection and awareness around mental Health,” Elise said.

“So, when we came across Dylan from Brothers ‘N’ Books, we were excited to be a part of his initiative.

“Dylan was amazing when we reached out and his organisation assisted with the whole process of purchasing the bookcase and supplying books.”

The initiative is easy to take part in – all locals have to do is drop into Sandgate Mowers during business hours and access the library.

“We hope to encourage people to take a book and leave a book (and) build up a community of shared interests, a sense of belonging and support to raise awareness for positive well-being strategies,” Elise said.

When asked how this collaboration would benefit the Sandgate community, Elise said, “This is a great opportunity for us to meet the local community…but it also supports community connection and our reuse and recycle/sustainability philosophy.”

But that’s not all Sandgate Mowers are involved in, with the store also running community events and supporting charities throughout the year.

“We are strong advocates for supporting community and advocating for positive well-being,” Elise said.

“Along with the community library, we run (a free International Woman’s Day workshop), support charities and our local sporting clubs and schools.

“We also run our monthly ‘Give Back Initiative’ where we offer a free service to someone in need.”
