In a generation shaped by social media, perfection is no longer an aspiration – it’s an illusion. When scrolling through your feed, have you ever noticed the number of photos of people showing their “perfect” bodies, “perfect” skin and alleged “perfect” lives?

But the reality is social media doesn’t have to be about comparison, and many young people are already actioning this much-needed change. Over 95 per cent of teens, aged 13-17, and 40 per cent of tweens, aged 8-12, use social media platforms daily – and many of them are trying to reshape what it means to be perfect – just being yourself.

Redefining Perfection: Authenticity Over Filters

They’re posting unfiltered photos, talking openly about mental health, and embracing their natural beauty, acne and all, to prove that being real is more powerful than being perfect.

Yes, social media can be the biggest cause of body image issues for teens and young people. But this can be changed. Instead of doomscrolling, we can all try following creators who uplift, educate, or inspire you to be yourself. Join the movement – use your platform to post content that reflects who you really are, not the character you’ve created behind a filter or photoshop.

Real life is honest, messy, emotional, and vibrant. And young people are showing that social media can be too.
