For most families, spending quality time together is a given. For the Chadwick family, it’s time that is slipping through their fingers.

Hudson Chadwick, who turned 13 in August, was diagnosed with the rare genetic disorder D2HGA, one of only 100 cases in the world.

The disorder affects the brain and nervous system, causing progressive neurological damage. It’s characterised by developmental delays, seizures, and weak muscle tone. In most cases, it results in death before the age of seven.

Mum, Claire, said her son was now entering his “end of life” stage, and the family had started a GoFundMe to help Hudson tick some items off his “bucket list”.

“We initially set the fundraising goal at $10,000, but we’ve moved it up to $16,000, as people have been so generous,” she said.

“The support has been amazing.”

Hudson’s Bucket List and Family Support

Claire said the money raised would go towards helping Hudson “get out and about”.

“He loves going to the footy, going to NRL games, and anything with water involved is a winner as well,” she said.

Some items on Hudson’s bucket list include a dolphin experience at SeaWorld, a trip to Australia Zoo, visiting Bluey’s World, and a farm stay on the Sunshine Coast.

Being wheeled out onto the field at an NRL match would also be a dream come true for Hudson.

Claire said the family – including Hudson’s dad Mick and siblings Phoebe and Xavier – were coping as best they could.

“Phoebe is at uni, so she’s doing the best she can, and Xavier is in Year 12, so he’s trying not to miss too many days, while having as much with Hudson as he can,” she said.

“We nearly lost Hudson in 2019 because he was so sick. So, to have him here still with us, it’s an absolute blessing. Every day with him is a blessing.

“As a family, we just want to have as much time together as possible.”

Donate to Hudson’s GoFundMe, ‘Help Hudson create lasting memories & bucket list’.

To send Hudson a birthday card or other well wishes, post them to PO Box 251, Kallangur, QLD, 4503.
