Get ready to get your groove on at the Sandgate Post Office Hotel with a night of tunes guaranteed to get you on the dancefloor.

Sounds of Soul: Soul Groove will be lighting up the iconic Sandgate destination, with a mix of 60’s R&B, northern and modern soul, funk and jazz, all on original 7-inch vinyl.

Michelle Christoe, from the hotel, said the venue was always keen to support music.

“Particularly music you can dance to,” she said.

“Soul music captures everything it means to be in love, to suffer heartbreak and to dance with abandon.”

Double deck duo Stephen and Elaine Brophy are Sounds of Soul, and the pair arrived in Australia in 2005 from the UK.

Stephen lived in Sydney during the early 90’s where he played saxophone in swing bands and the punk/goth band The Black Box.

His favourite line is, “I’ve never seen David Bowie, but he has seen me!”, referring to an occasion when David Bowie appeared at one of The Black Box gigs in Strawberry Hills.

Sounds of Soul are heavily involved with the Australian soul scene, and DJ and dance at Northern Soul and 60’s Mod nights and weekenders in Brisbane and nationally.

They have both represented Sounds of Soul at the Australian Nationals at both the Gold Coast and in Sydney.

Dancing has always been a passion for Elaine, and it’s created a path which led her into the world of DJ-ing. She grew up listening to disco back in the 70’s and 80’s and then house music in the 90’s.

Michelle added hearing the music on vinyl would be a whole new experience for many patrons.

“To do what they do on vinyl, you gain a better sound and a love for the older format – it’s nostalgic,” she said.
