As the festive season approaches, the Sandgate Guide is thrilled to announce a heartwarming local photo event that promises to be ‘paws-itively’ adorable.

Next month, pet owners and their furry friends can get into the holiday spirit at a special photo session at The Sands Bowlo, with all proceeds going to Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ).

Jodie Morphett, publisher of The Guides, said that on Saturday, 16 November and Saturday, 23 November, families could bring their beloved dogs along and have a photo taken with Santa.

“This is a great opportunity to create lasting memories for families while raising funds for a very deserving cause,” Jodie said. “Every dollar from the photo sales will go directly to Animal Welfare League Queensland, supporting their essential work.”

Each session costs $15 and includes a high-quality digital file of the image.

AWLQ Foster and Volunteering Coordinator and Community Engagement Officer, Shailea Maddern, said donations were used for necessities like food, bedding, medical care, desexing and dental surgeries for the animals.

“Community support is crucial because it means more animals can find homes and spend less time in the shelter, especially with the hotter months approaching,” Shailea said.

She said AWLQ helped dogs like Pluto, who came into care last Christmas with his brothers and sisters as part of an unwanted litter.

“Pluto is a gorgeous and loving one-year-old boy who has a zest for life and just wants to be friends with everyone – human and furry friends,” she said.

While Pluto was initially adopted, he has since returned to an AWLQ shelter through no fault of his own. He is currently looking for a forever home.

Shailea said Christmas and New Year were some of the busiest times for the not-for-profit organisation, with shelters experiencing an influx of abandoned and stray kittens.

“This is where the community can step in by fostering kittens, helping care for and socialise them and getting them ready to be desexed and adopted into forever homes,” she said.

Those unable to adopt or foster an animal can support AWLQ by donating wet food for kittens and cats, sheets, towels and blankets, volunteering, or sharing animal profiles on social media.

Bookings essential. Go to: Event Brite Photos with Santa website.

** Please also note if you would like to bring a donation of wet food for cats/kittens or dogs plus towels on the day, we will collect these and pass them on the AWL
