Sandgate musician Dublin Rose will release her self-titled debut album this month, marking a milestone after years on the local music scene.
The nine-track album, to be released on 8 May, is described as spanning genres from sassy, girly pop to whimsical folk, and includes her new single, indie-rock heartbreak anthem They Say.
Dublin said it felt surreal to see her debut album released.
“This album has been a long time coming, and many of these songs were written years ago, so finally seeing them out in the world feels very special,” she said.
“Throughout this process, I’ve definitely grown a lot as an artist, especially in the studio, and it’s been amazing to see how the songs have evolved into what they are now.”
According to Dublin, her approach to songwriting is usually quick and intuitive.
“When a good idea hits, the song often comes together really quickly – especially when I’m having so much fun that I can’t walk away from it,” she said. “They Say started with a friend joking, ‘You should drop him off the face of the earth,’ and I remember racing home and writing the whole thing that night. Those spontaneous moments often create the most honest songs.”
From Local Stages to International Dreams
To celebrate the release of the album, Dublin will be playing an 18+ launch show at Black Bear Lodge in Fortitude Valley on 23 May. She said she hoped to see a big home crowd at the event.
“It would mean so much to see a big 4017 crowd there,” she said. “I’ve been performing at local festivals around Sandgate since I was 12, so to finally launch my debut album ten years later feels really special. Black Bear Lodge is such a cool, intimate venue, and it’s going to be a super fun night. Having that home support would make it even more memorable.”
Following the launch, she will travel to Europe to perform in London, Paris and Ireland.
“I’m so, so excited!” she said. “I’ll be backpacking for three months and playing small, intimate shows along the way, which honestly feels like something out of a movie. Performing in places like London, Paris, and Ireland has always been a dream of mine, so it’s crazy to think it’s actually happening. I can’t wait to meet new people, soak up different cultures, and see how audiences on the other side of the world connect with my music.”
