A vibrant symbol of connection and creativity is set to be unveiled in Sandgate, celebrating decades of shared stories and artistic expression.
On Sunday, 3 May, Womenspace will host a special Mosaic Launch and the opening of the new exhibition by the Womenspace Art Collective.
The story behind the mosaics stretches back nearly 30 years, when members began painting delicate patterns on leopard tree seeds. Over time, these seeds were arranged into a spiral on the wall of the Womenspace venue – an evolving artwork created by generations of women and visitors. The spiral has come to represent belonging, safety, and a place where women can connect, share knowledge, reflect, and embrace diversity with kindness.
During the pandemic, this enduring symbol inspired a new installation to mark Womenspace’s 25-year milestone. Ceramic seed-shaped forms were crafted and arranged in a swirling spiral on the building’s exterior, extending the spirit of the original artwork into a public space.
A Living Artwork Celebrating Community and Connection
Now, the latest chapter of this creative journey is expressed through two large mosaics. One features a spiral that gathers the collective energy of contributors, while the other depicts a woman releasing that energy forward – carrying a message of respect, diversity, and kindness into the future.
This month’s free community event will include refreshments, with attendees invited to bring a plate to share. RSVPs can be made via SMS to 0434 357 862.
