Sandgate District State High School is hitting all the right notes by inviting young musicians to an open rehearsal to experience the joy of making music and get a firsthand taste of high school life.

Julia Lennon, Head of Department – The Arts, explained that the opportunity is intended to give primary school musicians a chance to play alongside high school students in a mentoring-style afternoon.

“The older students support and encourage the primary students throughout the rehearsal process,” she said. “This is an engaging opportunity for students to develop their skills, make new friends, and experience what high school music programs have to offer.”

Julia said that parent feedback from past years had been overwhelmingly positive.

“We have been running these events since 2021,” she said. “Parents consistently share that the opportunity to meet teachers and students prior to transitioning to high school is invaluable.”

Building Confidence and Connection Through Music

The hour-long afternoon rehearsal is designed for Year 5 and 6 students in their third year of learning their instrument, and is open to participants from the 4017 and surrounding areas.

“The biggest benefit is the sense of connection and confidence students gain,” Julia said. “It’s a fantastic way to build excitement for the next stage of their musical journey.”

Parents/guardians can find more information and access permission forms via the school website.
