Sandgate’s Sacred Heart Primary School is bringing art and community together for their third annual art show.
The Sacred heART Collective Art Exhibition and Community Markets will be held at the end of May, and organiser, Melissa Delacour, is calling on locals to support the school.
“This event has really grown into a beautiful community celebration of art, creativity, and connection,” she said.
“Our school is all about community – we have a beautiful parent and teacher community here, and actually a lot of people don’t know just how lovely our school is until they get into the grounds for events like this.”
The opening night art show will feature the work of local artists, all for sale, as well as a bar and canapes. The theme for the 2026 exhibition is ‘Flourish’, inviting artists to explore ideas of growth, renewal, and creativity.
“There’s something for everyone, including paintings, photography, drawings, and sculpture,” Melissa said.
“There are student and open categories available for submission.
“We ask for a $10 donation to the school at the door, and if anyone is really interested in buying art, we do encourage them to come along to the opening night, as pieces go very quickly.
“There’s an amazing artistic community here in Sandgate, and they have been supportive from day dot. SASArt, and Et Al Gallery, just to name a couple, have been big supporters.
“Last year, our artists had a great clearance rate, and one artist even sold all her pieces.”
A Weekend of Creativity, Young Entrepreneurs, and Community Spirit
The Saturday features a community market, including stalls from Sacred Heart students.
“The kids do a mini market; they have a big marquee, they have to buy a table for $10, and sell whatever they have made,” Melissa said.
“They spend their Easter holidays making crafts to sell. Last year, there was some crochet and some clay sushi rolls, which were really cute.
“The kids loved it, they were so interested in making and selling – it gave them a little business mind, and the confidence to speak to customers.
“It really showed them what it takes to have a business. You have to come up with the product and signage, and theme the table.”
The market day will also feature food and coffee vans, as well as local stallholders.
