Roll on down to Brighton Bowls Club with the Mad Mob Social Group for an afternoon of family fun, supporting the work of the Choices Cancer Support Centre at The Wesley Hospital.
The afternoon on 2 November will include a sizzling sausage feast, lucky door prizes, surprise spot draws and for the pool sharks out there, dive into a game of pool, try your luck at raffles, or join in the action at the auction.
Shirley Hall, a founding member of the Mad Mob Social Group, highlighted the impact of community support.
“People who support these events make all the difference,” Shirley said. “100% of the profits from the fundraiser will go towards the continuing services that the program offers patients and their families.”
Supporting Choices Cancer Support Centre for Over Two Decades
Mad Mob Social Group was founded over 40 years ago and has held many events to raise funds for cancer. This year marks the 21st anniversary of fundraising for the Choices Cancer Support Centre, a centre that offers services for every patient, regardless of the type of cancer they have.
The centre, which was launched at The Wesley Hospital in 1998 by former Brisbane Broncos captain Kevin Walters in honour of his late wife, Kim, offers vital services, including wig-fitting for patients during chemotherapy, as well as access to exercise and wellness programs that support both treatment and recovery.
Nearly 30,000 people in Queensland are diagnosed with cancer each year. Events like the Mad Mob Social Fundraiser aim to support patients and their families, providing essential resources that help them navigate the challenges of treatment, recovery and emotional well-being. These events not only raise vital funds but also contribute to the overall quality of life for those affected, fostering a sense of community.
The funds raised from next month’s event will be used to provide practical support and counselling to patients undergoing cancer treatment.
“Nearly all families have been touched by cancer,” Shirley said. “These families need all the help they can get, particularly the patients. This is just one way we can help to raise funds and raise awareness.”
Cost is $10pp or $2.50 (children aged 12 and under) to be paid at the door on the day. Please register your attendance by emailing looney962@gmail.com
