Sandgate’s sensational singer-songwriter Dublin Rose has triumphed at The QUBE Effect Awards, taking home the coveted People’s Choice Award.
The awards, hosted by Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, saw Dublin’s music video There You Go Again receive a quarter of the total votes cast.
Dublin said it felt “surreal” when she was announced the winner at The QUBE Effect Awards Night, held in August at The Triffid in Newstead.
“I genuinely did not expect it, especially as it was the last award of the night,” she said. “I was feeling a bit disheartened as the ceremony was almost over, so when they called my name, it was a complete shock.
“I had to get up and say a few words, which was overwhelming, but it was such an honour to stand in front of everyone and thank them.
“While it’s not all about winning, it felt so reassuring knowing that people enjoyed my song and the music video and the support from the prize means so much to me.”
Dublin’s Journey and Future Plans
The QUBE Effect program helps young artists achieve their musical dreams through professional performance and mentorship.
Dublin’s prize includes a free music video, a $500 merch package, a 4ZZZ artist subscription and a $250 record store voucher.
“This prize will be invaluable over the coming months as I prepare to promote my next single and eventually my EP,” she said. “There are so many costs involved in releasing music, especially for independent artists, so this kind of support is a game-changer.”
The music video for There You Go Again was filmed at Dublin’s best friend’s house in Shorncliffe and she said everyone she loved was there on the day to help.
“The video was produced by No.1 Network and before the shoot, we had a Zoom call to organise the concept,” she said. “I had the overall idea (for the video) as it follows the storyline of the song, but they were a big help in developing the little skits and ensuring everything flowed smoothly.”
Dublin thanked her friends, family, the Sandgate community and everyone who voted for her.
“I’m really lucky and grateful to be surrounded by such supportive people,” she said. “I’ve been so lucky to grow up in Sandgate, with its wonderful opportunities for young artists.
“I’ve been performing around Sandgate since I was 12 and every experience has been so positive and formative in my journey, giving me the confidence to pursue this as a full-time career.”
