The Sandgate Art Society (SasArt) Easter Art Show is gearing up to be bigger and better than ever this year.
The annual event, held in conjunction with the Bluewater Festival is an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work to the 4017 community and win some prize money as well.
SasArt members Brenda Hall and Marie Smith spoke to the Sandgate Guide about what’s new for this year’s show.
“In 2025, we have the Grace Cross Memorial Award for a mixed media piece,” Brenda said.
“Grace’s family has donated money for this to become a perpetual award; she was a big and much-loved figure in the bayside art community and this award is a lovely way to remember her.”
Marie added SasArt were also hoping to attract some younger entrants this year.
“We have a youth encouragement award with a $200 prize,” she said. “We have been canvassing all the local schools and we hope it’s going to be popular.”
An Art Lover’s Must-See Event
Art lovers can expect to see works of all kinds, including painting, drawing and sculpture, as well as photography and digital art. And every item on show is for sale.
“For people looking to own an artistic piece of the 4017, this is the art show to attend,” Brenda said.
“There’s something for everyone, at a price for everyone.”
The event has grown in popularity, alongside other SasArt events including the Creative Trails and workshops held throughout the year.
Marie said the Sandgate community was perfect for working SasArt artists.
“There’s a lot to see here – the cliffs, the pier, the sea, just the natural environment,” she said.
“And the group itself has grown as well, so it’s a supportive environment. The events we organise help bring in new members, and it doesn’t matter how you work, or what you do, it’s your art and the group is here to support you.”
Prize money for artists has received a boost this year, with Best in Show receiving $1500; first place $750; second place $350; and highly commended $250. The youth encouragement award is $200; the Grace Cross Memorial award is $750, and the adult encouragement award is $350.
Entry to the show is free and showgoers can also cast their vote for People’s Choice.
