The team at Sandgate’s Full Moon Hotel are celebrating after taking home top honours at the recent Queensland Hotels Association Awards for Excellence.

The 4017 favourite’s watering hole was awarded Queensland’s Best Bistro (Metropolitan), and the Bottlemart Sues Corner Boondall team achieved Hall of Fame status for achieving Queensland’s Best Detached Bottleshop for three consecutive years in a row.

Full Moon Hotel owners, Lucinda and Toby Black, said the awards were a testament to the passion and dedication of their “incredible team and the ongoing support of our valued patrons” that they have built during their tenure over the last 10 years.

“We were over the moon with excitement,” Toby said.

“Being recognised at this level is incredibly meaningful, not just for our team, but for the entire Sandgate community.

“As a locally owned and operated family business, we pour our heart into what we do every single day.

“To have that commitment celebrated on a broader stage is humbling and energising.

“It reinforces that suburban pubs can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the state, and that our corner of Sandgate has something truly special to offer.”

Lucinda added that excellence “doesn’t happen overnight”, and while her advice to other businesses sounded simple, she acknowledged it was far from easy.

“Excellence is the result of consistent care by our team, thoughtful decision-making and a willingness to evolve,” she said.

A Culture of Care and Community Drives Success

“At the Full Moon, we’re big believers in building a culture where team members feel empowered and valued.

“When your people feel proud of where they work, it shows in the experience you deliver to every guest or customer.”

According to Lucinda, the Sandgate community had played a huge role in the Full Moon’s ongoing success story.

“This award is especially meaningful because it recognises a decade of hard work, belief, and investment,” she said.

“We’ve poured energy into developing a strong team – many who have worked alongside us since day one – helping shape how Sandgate is seen and celebrated beyond our local postcode, and purposeful refurbishments to breathe new life into the Full Moon Hotel.

“We’ve always held a quiet confidence in the potential of this place – in both the venue and the character of the community around it. We knew that if we backed it, others would too.”

The Full Moon Hotel is located at 118 Eagle Terrace, Sandgate. The Bottlemart Boondall is located at Sue’s Korner, 2128 Sandgate Road, Boondall.
