If you hear the sound of jingle bells floating around Brighton later this month, you’re not mistaken.
The St Kieran’s Primary School fete has returned with a Christmas in July theme, and according to principal Ben Gray, even the big guy in red might be making a special trip from the North Pole.
“Our fete is held every two years, and it’s a way of bringing the community together, it’s about connection, and it’s a fun day where people can get a feel for our school and what we’re about,” he said.
P and F president Melanie Hayman said families could spend all day at the fete.
“There will be rides, sideshow alley games, a chocolate wheel, and plenty of treats like popcorn and fairy floss,” she said.
“We’re also having a petting zoo, pony rides, and reptiles.”
Fun, Festivities, and Fundraising at the Fete
Fetegoers can also expect plenty of student performances, a trash and treasure stall, and at the end of the day, parents can relax with a drink.
Ms Hayman added the bake stall was always hugely popular, and there would be a teacher’s baking competition judged by Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy, and State MP for Sandgate, Bisma Asif.
“Fitting in with our theme, we will have Christmas crafts, gingerbread decorating, and a giant advent calendar raffle, where you pick your door if you win a prize,” she said.
Mr Gray said the fete was a fundraising opportunity for the school, as well.
“In previous years, we have raised money for air conditioning in classrooms, fridges in classrooms, and playground upgrades,” he said.
“This year, we’re raising funds for three chilled water bubblers around the school.”
He added St Kieran’s aimed to keep costs at a minimum for families attending the fete.
“I’m a parent myself and I know how expensive things are, so we aim to make the day as accessible and affordable as possible,” Mr Gray said.
“Don’t feel you have to spend the earth when you come here. We look forward to seeing not just our school community, but the broader community at our fete, and we also get to see a lot of former students come back, which is so lovely.”
