The Tynwald Masonic Lodge is partnering with SANDBAG to raise up to $40,000 this year to ensure the local charity can continue to provide community services.

Masonic Lodge treasurer, Peter Taylor, said the fundraising partnership was in conjunction with Hand Heart Pocket, the Freemasons charity.

“We are proud to be involved with SANDBAG Inc, and the adjacent community areas, and we look forward to a great future ahead,” he said.

During the Lodge’s centenary celebration in 2008, they presented SANDBAG with a cheque for $10,000.

“That was used for computers, furniture for the community hall, floor coverings, and gardening equipment,” Peter said.

The History and Mission of Tynwald Lodge

The Tynwald Lodge was inaugurated on 11 July 1918, at the Baptist Church in Sandgate, with 11 founding members. That was followed by a banquet held at the Sandgate School of Arts, with 50 “brethren” in attendance.

At that time, the Lodge was consecrated under the Scottish Constitution, and a Warrant was issued by the Grand Lodge of Scotland No 1177.

With the Union of the Queensland Lodges in 1921, Tynwald was one of 281 lodges to join the Union and received its present roll number, 262 UGLQ but retained its connection with the Grand Lodge of Scotland.

Membership to Tynwald Masonic Lodge is open to men aged over 20. The motto of Freemasonry is “making good men better”.
