Emergencies can happen without warning, but knowing the risks and having a plan in place can make a big difference when the unexpected occurs.

Sandgate locals will have the chance to learn more about local hazards and how to respond at a free EmergencyRedi™ Workshop being held as part of Australian Red Cross’ EmergencyRedi Week from 14 to 20 September.

Nichola Krey, Director Resilience at Australian Red Cross, said preparedness is one of the most effective ways people can protect themselves and their loved ones during an emergency.

“Emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time,” Nichola said. “The good news is that simple preparation can make a significant difference to how people respond and recover.”

The workshop will cover emergencies that could affect the local area and help participants start building their own RediPlan®. It will also explore the practical, psychological and social aspects of being ready for emergencies.

Building Community Resilience Together

Supported by NRMA Insurance, the session will also explore how communities can work together to understand local risks.

“Taking steps to prepare before an event happens goes a long way in protecting yourself, your loved ones, your community and the things you care about,” NRMA Insurance Executive Manager Community Impact Jen Cobley said.

Tickets are free, but spaces are limited.
