TAFE Queensland

Brent Kinnane, General Manager at TAFE Queensland Brisbane Region, said it was important to find a pathway that felt right for each student.
“At TAFE Queensland, we help young people turn their interests into real opportunities – whether that’s through hands-on trade training, creative industries, health, business, or emerging technology fields,” Brent said. “Our practical approach equips students with the skills and confidence to transition directly into the workforce or use their TAFE Queensland studies as a pathway to further education, such as university.”
The Bracken Ridge campus offers study in automotive, engineering, construction, plumbing, early childhood education, accounting, IT, cyber security and more. With options ranging from skill sets to diplomas, students can find a pathway to match a wide range of career aspirations.
“For those still figuring out what’s next, we offer guidance and flexible study options to help students explore their strengths and find the right fit,” Brent said.
Earn While You Learn
Apprenticeships are another way for young people to earn while learning. Local businesses offer opportunities in trades, hospitality, health and more, providing hands-on experience and valuable industry connections. Apprentices split their time between working under supervision and studying with a training provider, gaining a qualification while developing real-world experience.
To find an apprenticeship, students can approach local businesses directly or work with a training organisation that can match them with an employer. For example, TAFE Queensland offers a ‘Find Your Employer’ service to connect applicants with suitable apprenticeship opportunities.
Get Experience
Volunteering is another option to consider for those unsure of their next step. It builds skills and experience, enhances resumes and contributes to the community. Local organisations – from St John Ambulance Qld to aged care services – welcome volunteers.
Short-term work experience or job shadowing with local businesses can also help students explore different industries before committing to a course.
Whether it’s TAFE, apprenticeships, university, going straight into work, or volunteering, the key is exploring options and supporting young people to find a pathway that makes the most of their strengths and sets them up for the future.
