Local artist Liane Worth first discovered the hidden language of flowers while watching an episode of a British murder mystery series.

She has since become so fascinated with the topic that she has planned her upcoming art exhibition, Floriology, around this theme.

Liane said she was excited to share her new collection with the local community when she brings her second solo exhibit to Et Al Gallery in Sandgate this month.

Floriology is the secret language of flowers,” she said. “Throughout most cultures, flowers have had meanings used in rituals, mythologies and traditions. When I first learned about it I thought it would be fun to grow a garden of joyful meaning – this then became the idea to create a collection of work also based on the theme of hidden messages.”

As a mixed media artist and printmaker, Liane describes her work as an illustrative collage of pattern, colour inspiration and storytelling, rather than traditional botanical art.

“I think this exhibition will have universal appeal as my current work is highly influenced by poster illustration art, fabric patterns and mandalas,” she said. “Most pieces will contain text describing the meanings of flowers or mythology quotes.

“I actually feel quite attached to each piece as they are all flowers I have grown and enjoyed, or they are flowers I am planning on planting at my current home. I truly hope my pieces bring a sense of joy and connection to the viewers.”
