There’s a new remote health service available for 4017 residents, which aims to make life easier for anyone struggling to attend hospital appointments.
A private, soundproof telehealth pod is now open at the Brighton Wellness Hub.
The centre’s Manager Consumer and Community Partnerships Community and Oral Health, Claire Harrison, said the pod was designed to help connect patients to their scheduled hospital telehealth appointments.
“Anyone receiving care from a Metro North Health Facility can access the pod,” Claire said.
“However, the clinician they are seeing needs to advise that a telehealth appointment is suitable and they need to book it for the patient.”
Since the COVID pandemic, there’s been a rise in remote medical appointments, although Claire added they’re not right for everyone.
“Consumers can be assured that telehealth appointments are only scheduled if the person does not need to be seen, physically, in person,” she said.
“But for many appointments this can be a convenient and beneficial way to see the clinician. It is better than a phone call, because the clinician can see you and that interaction has benefits.
“It can also save the consumer time and money, as they don’t need to travel to hospital for appointments.”
Who the Telehealth Pod Is Designed to Help
While telehealth appointments can be done from home with a phone, computer or iPad, the pod at the Brighton Wellness hub is perfect for anyone without the technology at home.
“It is available for anyone,” Claire said.
“You may work in the Brighton area and don’t want to drive to the RBWH for an appointment. You can pop into the Hub and use the telehealth pod instead.
“Or you may be homeless or living in a situation that doesn’t allow you to have access to phones, computers, or iPad and this is an option to help you.
“Or you may not be tech savvy, don’t feel confident using the equipment or just want a private, quiet space to have your appointment – we can help with that.”
The telehealth pod is a free service. Patients just need to discuss the option of telehealth with their doctor to decide if it’s suitable.
“Once the appointment is made, they just turn up at the Brighton Wellness Hub and we have staff to assist,” Claire said.
“The Pod only accommodates one person but if a support person needs to be present, we have a meeting room where we can set them up.
“People are welcome to come and have a look at the Pod if they would like more information about its use.”
The Brighton Wellness Hub is located at the corner of Nineteenth Ave and the Hornibrook Hwy, Brighton.
