The number of small and family-owned businesses in Queensland has officially passed 500,000, according to State Government statistics.
Bill Gollan, Sandgate Bayside Chamber of Commerce president, said small businesses are the lifeblood of the 4017, and there’s no better time to support local.
“When small businesses are supported properly, the whole community benefits,” he said.
“Local operators create jobs, sponsor clubs, support events and give our towns their character.
“Strong small business isn’t just an economic issue – it’s a community one.”
According to official figures, the number of small businesses in Queensland increased from 495,000 to more than 508,000.
Queensland small businesses contribute $132 billion annually to the state economy and employ more than a million people.
Government Response and Support for Small Business
State Minister for Small and Family Business, Steve Minnikin, said small and family businesses played a critical role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering vibrant local communities.
“Small and family businesses are vital to our economy and our local communities, and surpassing half a million is a testament to the determination and ingenuity of our small and family business owners,” he said.
“The 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games will bring global attention and opportunity to all corners of our State, and we are making sure small businesses have the tools, capability and confidence to seize these opportunities.
“Every time you shop locally, you’re investing in Queensland’s future.
“Let’s celebrate this achievement by continuing to champion our small businesses.”
The State Government currently has several programs open for applications for small business owners, including the Business Growth Fund, Secure Communities Partnership Program, and the Small Business Apprenticeship Pilot Program.
