“Mama always said, life’s like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get.”
Those iconic words from Forrest Gump are ringing true in Sandgate, with the announcement that Australia’s first-ever Bubba Gump Shrimp Co restaurant is opening in the bayside suburb.
SKJ Capital is behind the new venue, and Operations General Manager, Adam Greer, said the company was excited to bring the iconic global brand to the 4017.
“This is the first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co to open in Australia,” he said.
“Sandgate offers a strong sense of community and relaxed coastal charm, creating a natural alignment with a seafood-driven dining experience, while Brisbane’s rapid population growth and rising tourism continue to fuel demand for vibrant, experience-led destinations where people can connect and enjoy their leisure time.”
The menu will be built around the Forrest Gump movie, and it’s being described as family-friendly, ‘shrimp-focused’ casual American comfort food, but with an Australian twist.
Themed Spaces, Jobs, and What to Expect
“The venue will also feature a series of themed spaces, think ping pong tables, the iconic Jenny boat, and playful ‘RUN FORREST RUN’ moments, creating an environment where, from the moment you arrive to your final selfie, you’re fully immersed in the world of Forrest Gump,” Adam said.
“A dedicated retail space will complete the experience, offering signature Bubba Gump Shrimp Co merchandise, from ‘I Just Felt Like Running’ t-shirts to your very own ping pong paddle.”
The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and will include outdoor dining options.
“You can’t pass up enjoying a meal in the Queensland sunshine, and there will be more seating upstairs, for casual dining and event bookings in the themed rooms,” Adam said.
He added recruitment was currently underway, with up to 50 jobs to be available, and locals were encouraged to apply.
“We are searching for the next generation of hospitality talent to help bring this exciting new venue to life,” he said.
“We are looking to build a passionate and high-performing team across all key roles, including Head Chef, Venue Manager, and back and front of house professionals, each playing a vital part in shaping the guest experience from day one.”
The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, in the old Sandgate Post Office Hotel building at 1 Bowser Parade, Sandgate, will be open later this year.
