Beat the heat and step into an enchanted world where colour, movement, and imagination unite, as Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club’s Ice Spectacular makes its highly anticipated return mid-December.
Show Director Kate Endriulaitis has been involved with the annual ice show for the past six years and explained that this year’s theme, Enchanted Earth, invites guests to experience the beauty of our planet like never before.
“The show costumes draw inspiration from the natural world, capturing the essence of Earth’s elements, landscapes, and vibrant flora and fauna,” she said. “Each costume narrates a story and transforms performers into living embodiments of nature’s beauty.”
Kate said that the show featured a diverse cast of figure skaters, synchronised skaters, and ice dancers of all ages.
“It showcases some of Australia’s top competitive skaters as well as enthusiastic beginners from the skate school program,” she said. “Welcoming new talent to the show is always a highlight, as it infuses fresh energy into our performances, but it is also a joy to see familiar faces returning to the show with improved skills and confidence.”
Skating Dreams and the Spirit of Performance
One returning performer is long-time Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club member, Emily-Jean Kelly, who has been skating with the club for over 16 years.
“I started skating when I was just over four years old,” she said. “My favourite part is feeling like I am flying over the ice and being able to do spins. I really enjoy both shows and competitions – although shows don’t have as much pressure and there is a lot more freedom with what you can do.”
Emily-Jean intends to keep skating and accomplishing her goals within the sport.
“I would like to be able to land all of my triple jumps, compete in bigger international competitions, and join an international ice show,” she said.
“My message to younger kids is that ice skating can be hard, but it’s so rewarding when you get the element you are working on – so keep going!”
Kate said the show was “an ideal way to introduce younger generations to the beauty of ice skating and to experience the unparalleled joy of live entertainment”.
