Strokes of the Sky

From the starkly bright midday sun to the fiery glow at dusk, the Big Sky exhibit captures the changing moods and colours of the sky.

Running from 9 to 31 May, the exhibition features artworks by Shane Rodwell, artist in residence at the Artrageous Community Arts Centre in Deagon.

The exhibition explores the complex colours of the sky under different aspects of the sun.

Shane said his challenge was “to create on a flat plane, the sense of a moving, liquid surface lit by a distant star in an endless sky.”

One of Shane’s favourite pieces from his collection is The Dying of the Light, where there’s a deserted beach at dusk with sinewy lines of debris along the sand and skeletons of dead trees.

“Clouds are fun,” he said. “They range from heavy threatening masses, thin, wispy threads of cotton wool floating overhead to far distant horizon bands, showering misty rain.”

Supporting Creativity at Artrageous

In addition to this latest exhibition, the Artrageous Community Arts Centre supports new and emerging artists, allowing them to develop their skills and professional practice.

As a drawing and painting teacher at Artrageous, Shane supports emerging artists to pursue their interests and exhibit their work.
