Former 4017 resident, Jimi Beavis, is gearing up to bring his infectious, soul-filled sound back to Cardigan Bar when he performs a three-hour set on 31 May.
“I last played at the Cardigan Bar about eight years ago,” Jimi said. “They seem very receptive to blues and that old-time roots music and that is a thing to be cherished. This is the kind of crowd that makes playing blues fun and really understands this genre of music.”
Adam Christy, owner of Cardigan Bar, is looking forward to welcoming Jimi for the first time since he has owned the venue.
“While Jimi has played at the Cardigan Bar a few years back, it will be the first time under my management,” he said. “Guests are invited to purchase food from local takeaway outlets and enjoy it on-site while watching the show. It’s going to be a great evening of entertainment.”
A Night of Blues, Stories, and Community Vibes
As a blues, soul and indie-folk artist, Jimi explained that while he has loved playing at various festivals, he prefers a packed bar to feel more connected to the audience.
“The audience truly appreciates it and you can see that on their faces,” he said. “They dance and you dance too. That connection through music is very important.”
Guests to the Cardigan Bar event can expect a fun, laid-back night where they can experience that same type of connection and really engage with the music.
“I will have my guitarist Dave McGuire, Grace King on drums and Casey Glennen on double bass,” Jimi said. “While we do like to make people dance, there is also an element of theatre to my music. I write story songs and I pick covers that have stories in them too. You don’t need to know the lyrics to get them, I hope, but if you sit back and listen you might get something else.
“The event will mark a nice return to a part of Brisbane that I like very much. Cardigan Bar is a wonderful community venue and the people who go there keep going back. If you haven’t been there before and you like this kind of music, check it out!”
