Bracken Ridge State High School’s (BRSHS) Chaplain Breakfast Program has been a staple of school life for many years, bringing together students, teachers and the wider community.

The program offers a sausage sizzle and pancakes to students every Thursday morning.

BRSHS chaplain Ryan Macnaught said the program was a way for students to have a filling breakfast before school and also give them the chance to talk with teachers and friends.

“The chaplaincy program and breakfast have been a longstanding part of Bracken Ridge High,” he said. “I believe there is a positive impact on the students that attend, not only do they get some food but are welcomed and the aim is to make everyone at the school feel like they belong.

“It’s a great environment in the morning to be around as we have staff and teachers volunteer to help out and bring the school community closer together. It fosters and builds relationships between students and teachers, which is such an important part of schooling.”

A Call for Community Support

The school is now reaching out for community support, asking for donations and volunteers.

“It would be great to get more of the wider community involved in the chaplaincy breakfast, whether that be through donating sausages, bread or pancake shakers, or volunteering to come in and cook up some pancakes once a term,” Ryan said.

“We would be grateful for any donation made towards the chaplaincy breakfast. It means we can better support the students.”
