Brighton Bulldogs FC has been kicking goals this season, with new facilities and a surge in player numbers.

Speaking to the Sandgate Guide, committee member Kristy Mancini said the club was “proud as punch” to be delivering upgrades for the local football community.

“We were fortunate to secure a Federal Government grant for female football facilities,” she said. “We’ve been able to build four new changerooms, a new referee room, and a new first aid room. And for the first time, we have an all-access bathroom as well.

“It has taken a significant number of volunteer hours and countless engagements with our key stakeholders, Brisbane City Council, Football Queensland and the Australian Government, to deliver these exceptional facilities.

“Most importantly, they provide our female participants with the modern, safe and inclusive facilities they deserve and want to use.”

Brighton Bulldogs fielded 900 players this season, and for the first time ever, they had an all-girls team in every age bracket of the Miniroos competition.

“We have a great female presence at our club, and the all-girls teams are the first to book out every year,” Kristy said.

She added that the growth of women’s football worldwide, and in particular the success of the Matildas, had been a huge influence on young players.

“Seeing the Matildas play, it 1000 per cent gives our girls some great motivation,” Kristy said.

“And we were also invited by the Roar this year to be on field with their players towards the end of the season and that was such an honour.

“It really inspires the girls, seeing where they could go.”

The Brighton Bulldogs have plans for more upgrades next year, and although the main season has finished, there’s still plenty to be cheering about.

“Our next focus, we really hope to be able to secure some funding to upgrade our lights, as they are not at the standard we need them to be,” Kristy said.

The Awards Dinner for senior players is on 10 October and the annual five-a-side competition is set to kick off on 7 October, running for five weeks.

Kristy added she would love to see more volunteers next season.

“Without volunteers, we do not have a club, and when you volunteer, you see what it takes to get all those teams out on the pitch every week,” she said. “It’s so rewarding.”
