It’s that time of year again when local artists open their doors and welcome visitors behind the scenes as they explore Sandgate Art Society’s Creative Trail.

Taking place across two weekends on 24-25 October and 31 October-1 November, this year’s program will also introduce a new Twilight Trail on Friday, 30 October from 4-8pm at selected venues.

Kylie Davidson, Creative Producer for the event, said that there is a real appetite for discovering the creativity happening in our local area.

“I think people enjoy the intimacy of it,” she said. “Rather than seeing finished work in a gallery, they are meeting artists in studios, homes, and creative spaces, and seeing where the work actually happens.”

The event attracts a diverse mix of talent, from first-time participants and emerging creatives to established and award-winning artists.

“This mix keeps the event fresh each year while showcasing the depth and diversity of creative talent within the community,” Kylie said. “The Trail isn’t only about buying art; it’s about meeting the person who made it, seeing where ideas develop, and understanding something about the creative process.”

Connecting Local Artists with the Community

The event will feature 53 registered artists working across studios, galleries, businesses and shared creative workspaces, supported by a behind-the-scenes team.

Artist Gabe Parker said that the event also offered a safe space for people to engage, share knowledge, and learn from others.

“The Trail is a way to connect with people who are creative and those that are yet to discover their creativity,” Gabe said. “People get to see and comment on the artworks, and they get to be inside our creative spaces – and artists get to hear feedback, which can be really motivating.”

With more than 5,000 visits recorded across participating venues in 2025, the format for the event will remain simple, allowing visitors to follow the Trail at their own pace.

“Visitors can collect a free printed Creative Trail Guide from local libraries, cafes or art shops,” Kylie said. “They can also download the free Moment app to help plan their route and learn about all the fabulous workshops, artist talks and demonstrations.

“I hope people come away surprised by just how much creativity exists in their own neighbourhood.

“We want people to feel that art belongs within everyday community life, and that our local artists are worth knowing and supporting.”
