Would you LOVE to grow your own organic veggies, but aren’t sure where to start?
Even those with experience may hesitate at the work it can take to start your patch from scratch.
The good news is you don’t have to do everything on your own. Consider joining a garden club for advice from experienced gardeners who may also share seedlings, seeds or cuttings with you.
Another group to consider, especially if you are interested in permaculture, are the Permablitz groups. A Permablitz is a free community gathering where volunteers meet for a day to transform a backyard or public space into an edible sustainable garden using permaculture principles.
Community People Power in Action
Having joined my local Permablitz group and helped with work on a few other people’s gardens, it was recently our turn. We organised the materials and our Permablitz group provided the people power.
We were thrilled with what was achieved – two big new raised beds built and filled with layers of cardboard, then tree clippings, then soil, compost and mulch. Attending members also kindly brought seedlings and cuttings to plant straight away.
If you like the idea of learning from and helping each other, consider looking for a Permablitz group near you.
