During October, you can’t walk past a house without a scary ghost jumping out, or shop at the markets without seeing decorations and pumpkins on the bench. Believe it or not, this is how Sandgate looks during October.
As for me, a person who loves to eat and enjoy, I look forward to October here in Sandgate. Imagine – you will have a whole basket filled to the brim with lollies. Lollies are the most important part of all this. I promise you will feel full in just one hour after eating them! But why are lollies the key to Halloween?
The History of Halloween Treats
Halloween and candy have connected histories. It started with the Celtic festival of Samhain and later Christian traditions of “souling,” where people offered food or prayers in exchange for treats to honour the dead. Modern trick-or-treating grew in North America in the late 19th century, and by the 1950s, individually wrapped lollies replaced fruits and nuts.
Popular Halloween treats in Australia include chocolates, gummies, and novelty sweets shaped like ghosts, worms, and pumpkins. Families also enjoy making their own snacks, like “band-aid” biscuits with jam, spooky sushi, or fruit kebabs.
October is the best month to enjoy treats, get playfully scared, and celebrate the magic of Halloween in Sandgate.
